Oh man, I love a good green smoothie. It gives me a sense of accomplishment having gotten a good dose of veggeis in to start the day. It’s almost as if nothing else you do that day matters because it started out good, am I right?!?! Wine? Chocolate? It’s cool, I had greens for breakfast.
This smoothie is not for the faint of heart, though. If you’re new to green smoothies, I’d definitely start with my go-to green smoothie, but if you’re looking to up your game and get even more greens into that cup, give this one a try.
You can almost feel your cells livening up when you drink it, buzzing with energy and rearing to go. I just love it!
This was my first time trying zucchini in a smoothie and you can’t taste it at all! I thought maybe I screwed something up so I’ve been adding zucchini to my smoothies all week just waiting to taste a hint of it, but I honestly can’t find it. It gets blended up and poof! Gone! Except for the nutrients, they stay.
Speaking of which, this smoothie, like most vegetable packed things, is super great mood food.
Greens are full of folic acid and omega-3s, both of which help to combat depression.
Flaxseeds provide an additional omega-3 boost. Several studies show the link between low levels of Omega-3 fatty acids and depression, as well as success in treating depression with Omega-3 supplementation. It’s powerful stuff! Read more no that, here!
Avocado is full of nutrients, fibre, and healthy fats that our brains need to function properly. They also contain certain plant sterols that balance hormones in both men and women.
Everything in this smoothie is good for you. And together, it’s a pretty powerful way to start your day. The ginger adds some zingy heat along with major anti-inflamatory and antioxidant properties, and apples keep the doctor away, duh. And did you know celery has electrolytes?! So post-workout, this is even better! Plus there’s zucchini and lemon which are great for supporting detoxification and de-bloating. #winning.
Try this one out and let me know what you think! It’s intense, but it really grows on you!

- ¼ of an avocado
- 1 cup sliced zucchini or cucumber
- 2 small stalks celery, diced
- 1 apple, diced
- ½ a frozen, peeled, banana
- 1-2 inches of fresh ginger, to taste
- 1-2 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- 1 cup coconut milk, almond milk, coconut water, or liquid of choice
- squeeze of ¼ - ½ a lemon, to taste
- 3-4 ice cubes
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until completely smooth.
- Tip: start with 1 inch of ginger and the juice of ¼ of a lemon, and add more to taste. I love the zing of a lot of ginger and lemon, but if you are new to green smoothies, start with less and add more as you get used to it.
