Here’s a refreshing twist!
Sorta like a dreamsicle for adults, maybe?
Tart, tangy, frozen goodness.
I love my smoothies, don’t get me wrong, but is anyone else just waiting for the day when the farmers markets are full of fresh berries and melons and peaches!? They’re just so pretty I usually can’t bear to put them in a smoothie. I want to put them on a plate, all purty and such, and eat em straight, fresh, and juicy as they are.
In the winter, I rely on frozen berries for smoothies and I gotta say, when they defrost, they are nowhere near as good lookin as the fresh ones. So yeah, blend away.
Not sure how this relates to this recipe but I think I just needed some fresh fruit in my life. Enter this smoothie with some wintry fruits and of course, the must have frozen banana for any dreamy smoothie. Literally. That’s non-negotiable for me.
Lets talk health benefits, shall we?
Grapefruits: Fat burning, full of vitamin C, de-bloater (that’s the technical term).
Clementines: Tasty (fact), great at being peeled, full of vitamin C.
Turmeric: This is really the star for health benefits here. It’s anti-inflammatory effects are used to treat arthritis and prevent gallbladder disease. It’s also a powerful antioxidant and helps the body remove toxins that could otherwise contribute to the formation of cancer cells. Not good! If you’ve never tried fresh turmeric before it’s a bit..zingy? Sorta like the bite of ginger but more mild, slightly different, and super refreshing! It’s also really great at staining your hands and clothes so be careful!
Also, has anyone else been overlooking the importance of Vitamin C for the past…oh all of them…years? I feel like we were inundated with “eat your vitamin C” as kids and then it just became white noise. But now, reading up on it, it’s like…a super important antioxidant! It’s been proven to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. It’s also a friendly vitamin, helping other antioxidants work better in your body. How cute! I’ve also heard it’s great for wrinkle prevention, but don’t quote me on that one.
Drink up, guys! Your bod will appreciate it!
Citrus Turmeric Smoothie | Print |
- ½ a grapefruit, peeled and seeded
- 2 large clementines, or small oranges, peeled and seeded.
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 inch fresh turmeric, chopped
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed
- ¼-1/2 cup coconut milk, or milk of choice.
- Use a knife to cut the rind off of the grapefruit and then cut into segments. Add to a blender.
- Peel the clementines and try to get any stingy rind pieces off, as much as possible. If using oranges, use a knife to remove the rind completely. Add to the blender.
- Add all remaining ingredients to a blender, starting with ¼ cup of almond milk and blend until smooth. If you prefer a thinner smoothie, add more almond milk until you reach your desired consistency.
